Individual Therapy and Couples Counseling

Facts

How I Operate

Therapy Frequency: The number of sessions largely depends on the types (and number) of issues we are tackling together. After our first few sessions, you and I will decide together the how often to meet in a way that makes sense to help you achieve your goals for therapy. Usually appointments are scheduled once per week (weekly), which allows for steady progress and enough time between sessions for you to work or reflect on what is discussed in the session. Occasionally, if a life crisis occurs, or if depression or anxiety is particularly severe, sessions may be scheduled more frequently. Once progress is being made, we may meet less frequently—sessions every other week—but with flexibility if treatment gains are lost. The therapy process may last for only a few sessions or may continue for much longer, depending on your needs as a client.

Talking to a therapist for the first time can feel awkward or embarrassing for many people. However, usually after a few sessions, clients begin to feel more comfortable with the process, and come to see their therapist as a supportive, reliable person in their lives.

Notably, I believe, like most things in life, you get what you pay for and therapy is no exception. If you commit to the process, therapy is an immeasurable investment in yourself because of the benefits it has on your life, relationships, health, and well-being.

Fees: My fees are $200 for an individual therapy session and $230 for a couples session. I occasionally adjust my fees because of hardships or financial limitations (sliding scale). These sliding scale appointments are limited.

I DO NOT take any insurances but I will work with you to access any out-of-network benefits you may have with your insurance company.

For payment, I accept cash, credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, & American Express), HSA or Flex account, or via an app (i.e. Venmo, Cash, Zelle, Ivy).

I offer a free phone consultation. Feel free to contact me with any questions about my fees.

Sessions: Regular psychotherapy (individual or couples) sessions are 45-50 minutes. Extended Sessions are 85 minutes. Some people prefer extended sessions for a variety of reasons, such as working on specific issues for a concentrated amount of time or scheduling challenges where weekly therapy is impractical. For example, many couples find extended sessions more helpful because they can focus more intensely on problems or practice skill-building.

Out-of-Network Provider: I do not not take insurance or participate within a managed care network, and thus am considered an “out of network” (OON) provider. This means your insurance company may reimburse you at a lower rate than my fee or may not reimburse you for my services at all. Many of my clients who use their OON benefits get 50-70% of the counseling fee reimbursed.

If you wish to use your OON benefits, please contact your insurance company to verify the out-of-network benefits for your specific plan.

When you contact your insurance company, it is helpful to ask the following questions:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits? What are they for licensed psychologists?

  • What is my deductible and has it been met/satisfied?

  • How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?

  • How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?

  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session? What percentage, if any, will my plan reimburse psychotherapy for?

  • Codes for therapy to ask about include 90791 (initial session) then 90834, 90837 or 90847 (family/couples session).

If you have out-of-network mental health benefits, I will be happy to assist you by supplying bills, diagnosis and other information that is requested by your insurance company for reimbursement. You are responsible for submitting your own claims if you want to be reimbursed. I cannot guarantee reimbursement. Thus, charges not covered or refused by insurance remain your responsibility.

Good Faith Estimate Notice: Under the law, health care providers need to give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask me or any other therapist you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, or how to dispute a bill, see your Estimate, or visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Cancellations: Once an appointment session is scheduled, that time is reserved for you. If you need to miss a scheduled session or need to reschedule, please contact me in advance so that you will not be charged. When cancelling a session, please leave a voicemail and text. Visits must be cancelled within 48 business hours (Monday- Friday 9AM-7PM), otherwise you will be charged your full fee for the time that was reserved for you, except in the case of genuine emergencies, illness, or inclement weather. If a patient misses numerous appointments they will be required to prepay via credit card when scheduling.

The cancellation policy applies to all clients. This policy exists to protect against financial loss associated with appointment no-shows or last-minute cancellations and to allow me adequate time to fill in cancellations with other individuals who are in need of my services.
